For warehouse managers and business owners, the forklift fleet is the heartbeat of the facility. Keeping forklifts operating efficiently and safely keeps the business operating as well. This means the lead-acid batteries that power this critical equipment require regular washing.
Maintaining these batteries through regular forklift battery washing is not just a matter of cleanliness; it is a technical necessity to keep equipment running efficiently and ensure operator safety. The primary barrier to regular maintenance is often the management of the resulting hazardous wastewater.
Sabo Industrial provides a closed-loop/open discharge solution that integrates high-efficiency washing with advanced on-site treatment, eliminating the logistical burden of hazardous waste disposal.
Why Do Forklift Batteries Need to Be Washed?
Neglecting forklift battery cleaning leads to a cascading series of mechanical and electrical failures. Utilizing a Sabo Battery Wash Cabinet paired with our EV1004 100 Gallon Batch Unit addresses several critical risk factors:
- Prevention of acid creep and corrosion
- Elimination of electrical shorts and parasitic draw
- Extending equipment and battery lifespan
The Sabo Solution: From Hazardous Waste to Dischargeable Effluent
The traditional challenge of battery washing is what to do with the wastewater. This industrial battery wastewater is typically contaminated with lead, sulfuric acid, and other heavy metals. Transporting this hazardous waste off-site for disposal is an expensive, high-liability endeavor.
Sabo Industrial’s approach integrates the Sabo Battery Wash Cabinet with our proprietary Wastewater Treatment System.
The ClearTreat® Process
Our system utilizes a specialized process designed to treat complex wastewater in the most efficient and environmentally friendly manner. Here is how the process works:
- Collection: Wastewater from the battery wash cabinet is pumped to the EV1004 mix chamber.
- Flocculation: ClearTreat® formulations are added to the water. These agents are engineered to encapsulate heavy metals and neutralize acidity through a process of ion exchange and micro-encapsulation.
- Separation: The contaminants are bound into a stable, non-leachable floc.
- Filtration: The floc is passed through a bag filter manifold, where the non-hazardous sludge is captured and can be disposed of in the local landfill. The legally dischargeable effluent is sent to the sewer or the effluent can be sent to the rear 200-gallon storage tank for water reuse.
By treating the water on-site, facilities can safely discharge the clear effluent on site, completely eliminating the need for hazardous waste transport and disposal. Business owners save money, time, and the environment with Sabo’s solutions.
Sabo Industrial Has Your Industrial Battery Wastewater Treatment Solution
Every wastewater profile is unique, so to ensure the highest level of efficiency, Sabo Industrial can perform an evaluation of your specific waste stream. Send two 1-gallon samples of your representative wastewater to Sabo Industrial Corp. Our technicians will evaluate the samples to determine which ClearTreat® product best suits your needs.
